Cross-border trucking and transfer (drayage)
Most US–Mexico freight moves by truck, and at the border a short-haul transfer carrier often pulls the trailer across the bridge between Mexican and US yards.
Long-haul carriers usually operate on one side of the border, so a typical move is Mexican carrier to a border yard, transfer carrier across the bridge, then a US carrier to the destination. Laredo is the busiest crossing for this freight; others include El Paso, Pharr, Otay Mesa and Nogales. Each handover adds time and risk, so ask how the supplier ships and who is responsible at each stage.
