RFQ (Request for Quotation)

An RFQ is a request to suppliers to quote a price and terms for a defined part or service.

A good RFQ includes the drawing and revision, material, finish, annual and per-order quantities, required certifications, Incoterm and delivery place, and the date by which quotes are due. When every supplier answers the same complete RFQ, quotes can be compared line by line: unit price, tooling, lead time and terms. Incomplete RFQs are the main reason quotes from Mexico come back in different formats and are hard to compare.
