PPAP (Production Part Approval Process)

PPAP is the automotive industry's standard process, defined by AIAG, for proving that a supplier's production process consistently makes parts that meet all requirements.

A PPAP package can include up to 18 elements, such as design records, process flow, PFMEA, control plan, measurement system analysis, dimensional results, material test results and a part submission warrant. The customer chooses a submission level from 1 to 5; level 3 is the usual default. Outside automotive, buyers often ask for a lighter version: a first article inspection report plus material certificates.
